Travel Blog #15: Actively Retired Travel
Two friends of mine, Eugene and Kay Kneebone, are heading off today on a terrific travel adventure. They are both members Probus, which is a group made up of active retiree’s who used to organise business (Probus = professional business), but who now organise their own fun. The Probus website describe themselves in this way:
The Probus Centre - South Pacific Inc., is dedicated to promoting the development of friendship and acquaintance and the advancement of intellectual interests of its membership throughout Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific Islands. http://probus.com.au/
Eugene and Kay live in Ballarat, Victoria, where the Probus groups (of which there are 19) include a walking group, a theatre group, and a travel group. This particular travel group expedition is a two week caravan tour of Victoria and New South Wales taking in the mountain regions of Cooma and Jindabyne, as well as the coastal regions of southern NSW. There will be about a dozen Probus people on this trip travelling in 6 vehicles, most towing caravans. In the past, the same group have done similar travels to the Flinders Ranges and Broken Hill.
This sounds like a great way to enjoy the company of friends, experience different parts of the country, and most importantly, enjoy life. I’m a long way from retirement myself, however I must say that I’m looking forward to getting there. It sounds like fun.
